In occasione
reference a livello mondiale (cfr. i CDs “Parlar
rivoluzionari cacciniani: Francesco Rasi (Tenore e Basso
tutta Europa.
In the occasion
of yet another contemporary performance of Monteverdi’s
Orfeo at the Teatro alla Scala, while waiting for Italy
to give her the chance to spread the authentic and
longstanding Italian School of Singing, Nella Anfuso
offers the possibility to discover and enjoy “la gorgia soave
virtuosism, the most natural) of the “giusta preghiera”
(proper prayer) of Orfeo. (Letter to Alessandro Striggio 24th
July 1627). Anfuso believes that it is a must for Italy to
revive and promote this glorious heritage, endangered because of
its immateriality but precious also for its connection with the
history of the language as mirror for the establishment of a
national identity. Anfuso also deems it necessary to train
a new generation of young interpreters, without whom it would a
vain pursuit to try and achieve the “parlar cantando” (to
speak singing) of the Divine Claudio.
The cantatrice,
whose Monteverdian repertoire is nowadays the internationally
recognized authority (cfr. the two CDs Parlar Cantando
I and Parlar Cantando II), interprets the two
versions of “Possente Spirto”, revealing, in each
interpretation, the peculiar aesthetic and technical features.
Version A,
until today considered an early draft and therefore never
performed, emerges as the most significant, a “spondaic”
prayer, in pure Hellenic style. Anfuso’s interpretation reaches
here a novel expressivity as she performs it according to the “effetti”,
the revolutionary technical and expressive solutions,
introduced by Caccini: Francesco Rasi (both Tenor and Bass as it
was typical at the time), first interpreter of the Orfeo
in Mantua, was himself a disciple of Giulio Caccini, illustrious
teacher renown all over Europe.
Version B,
which has been so far the object of constant parody, is
finally brought back to life by Anfuso as “canto
incantatore” (“enchanting chant”). Anfuso is the only
interpreter who is actually able to move with “la gorgia
soave et spiccata”, where the trills and passages,
beautifully “spiccati” finally acquire a highly pathetic
significance. |
